Before & Aftercare

Tattoo with Second Skin Aftercare

Renaissance Tattoo Studio

Second Skin Aftercare Instruction

Congratulations on your new tattoo!

Your tattoo has been covered with a bandage, designed to protect and promote optimal healing.

Follow these aftercare steps to ensure the best results:

Day 1: The Application

  • Leave the Bandage On
    • Keep the Second Skin on for 5 full days.
    • During this time, you may notice fluid (ink, plasma, or blood) accumulating under the bandage. This is normal and part of the healing process.
  • Avoid Touching or Adjusting the Bandage
    • Do not poke, peel, or lift the edges of the bandage.
    • Ensure the bandage stays clean and dry.

Day 5: Removing the Bandage

  • Wash Your Hands
    • Before removing the bandage, wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap.
  • Remove the Bandage Gently
    • Peel the bandage off slowly, starting from one edge and stretching it away from the skin.
    • If the adhesive feels stuck, apply warm water to loosen it for easier removal.
  • Clean Your Tattoo
    • Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented antibacterial soap.
    • Use your fingertips—avoid scrubbing or using a washcloth.
    • Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel.

Ongoing Care (After Removing the Bandage)

  • Moisturize Regularly
    • Apply a thin layer of recommended tattoo balm 2-3 times daily.
    • Keep the tattoo hydrated, but avoid over-moisturizing.
  • Avoid Soaking
    • No swimming, hot tubs, or baths until the tattoo is fully healed.
    • Limit long showers to avoid prolonged water exposure.
  • Protect from the Sun
    • Avoid direct sunlight during the healing process.
    • Once healed, use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to protect your tattoo from fading.

What to Expect

  • Peeling and Itching: It’s normal for your tattoo to peel and itch as it heals—do not pick or scratch.
  • Scabbing: Minimal scabbing may occur. Let it fall off naturally.

Aftercare Instruction

Congratulations on your new tattoo!

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure it heals beautifully.

Please follow these instructions:

Ongoing Care Days 1-14

  • Leave the Bandage On
Your tattoo artist will cover your tattoo with a bandage or plastic wrap. Leave it on for the time specified by your artist (typically 2-4 hours).
  • Wash Your Hands
Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before touching your tattoo.
  • Gently Clean Your Tattoo
    • Remove the bandage carefully.
    • Wash your tattoo gently using your fingertips with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented antibacterial soap.
    • Do not use a washcloth, loofah, or sponge.
  • Pat Dry
Use a clean, soft paper towel to gently pat the tattoo dry. Avoid rubbing.
  • Apply a Thin Layer of Aftercare Product
    • Use a recommended aftercare ointment.
    • Apply sparingly to avoid suffocating the tattoo.
  • Avoid Soaking
    • No swimming, hot tubs, or long showers. Keep your tattoo away from standing water.
  • Protect from the Sun
    • Avoid direct sunlight on your tattoo.
    • Once healed, use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to protect it.
  • Avoid Tight or Irritating Clothing
Wear loose, breathable fabrics that won’t stick to your tattoo.

What to Expect

  • Peeling and Itching: Your tattoo will peel like a sunburn within a few days. Do not pick or scratch it.
  • Scabbing: Light scabbing is normal; let it fall off naturally.

Long-Term Care

  • Keep your tattoo moisturized with unscented lotion.
  • Protect it from prolonged sun exposure to preserve the color and detail.
